Just a few months before the passing of Ben Weider, the IFBB's co-Founder and Honorary Life President gave his blessing for an annual award that would honor those members of the bodybuilding community who have helped set the highest possible standard. This year's recipient was 8-time Mr. Olympia, Lee Haney. The presentation was made on July 17th in Tampa, Florida as part of the 2010 “Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Championships”.
Shawn Ray had the remarkable opportunity to interview one of the most prestigious icons in bodybuilding history - Lee Haney. Lee was the first NPC Nationals Overall winner and then went on to compete on the Mr Olympia stage the following year. He placed third in 1983 and in 1984 he won the Mr Olympia and went on to hold that title for 8 consecutive times.
Lee Haney struggled to become a professional bodybuilder while working two part time jobs as well as balancing college and a girlfriend. However, in addition to trying to achieve his bodybuilding goals Lee always had an eye out on how to improve himself and those around him and that is what makes him one of our most recognizable and idolized icons in the bodybuilding industry.
